Meet the artist.
Hi, I’m Carissa. I’m a writer, photographer and self-taught abstract artist residing in Malaysia. Growing up, I was never good at drawing or painting objects, so for the longest time, I never dared to consider myself an artist since I couldn’t paint like everyone else.
Then one quiet afternoon in my living room, I found the courage to just apply colors on paper. Using old paints and paintbrushes, I began to create something new for myself: a collection of colors through wild brushstrokes.
Like wildflowers, I hope my art expresses the courage to bloom with confidence – unapologetic, unrestrained, and deeply rooted in a culture that values purpose and progress over perfection.
My art is mostly inspired by earthy tones, buttery shades of sunlight, poetry, music, stormy skies, and nature. I’m also passionate about God, coffee, photography, dogs, sunsets, and stories with a good plot twist.
Meet the art.
My art is completely intuitive, and each painting tells its own unique story. The beauty of abstracts is not just what you see in the final painting. There’s actually a whole world of little stories hidden in the layers and colors, with every tiny detail forming the big picture.
In fact, the abstract process has taught me so much about courage. I’ve learned to trust my instincts, make bold decisions, and let go of the fear of making mistakes.
It’s sort of like going on a road trip without a map – you don’t really know where you’ll end up, but you learn to trust the journey and enjoy the scenery as it unfolds before your eyes.
So this is my story. It’s wild, it’s messy, but it’s a collection of little steps – every brush stroke, every mark, every scribble paints a story of courage, of taking risks and making decisions fueled by faith.
I like experimenting with a variety of tools and mediums, with my current favorites being acrylics, watercolors and oil pastels.
