slow down

Inspired by slower rhythms and quiet moments, this original abstract series reflects the peace abounding in intentional moments of rest.

Choosing to adopt a slower way of life may seem counterproductive to the current culture we live in, which often celebrates productivity, performance and perfection. We get praised for our accomplishments and our ability to work effectively and flawlessly under pressure.

While it's definitely important to cultivate professionalism and efficiency in everything we do, striving in a fast-paced rhythm can be exhausting in the long run.

It can subtly produce a fear of missing out/falling behind, a sense of guilt for not doing enough and the constant chase for perfection in some way.

As an artist, I think my usual art style leans toward maximalism, with lots of colors, movements, marks and shapes. Interestingly, it mirrors the way I think because I have a horrible habit of overthinking things all the time.

But this season, I'm choosing to be more intentional by learning how to slow down and not make hurried decisions that stem from fear or anxiety.

And that's how this series came to be. I find myself drawn to minimalism these days, so these artworks represent the conscious decision to push back against the culture of striving, and pull into a slower rhythm of rest.

So without further ado, I hope you'll enjoy these 3 original abstract paintings as much as I loved creating them!
